A Message from John Eveleigh to all Yeadon Residents...

Mind the Gap!

John Eveleigh says...

"What gap? Over the last few months I have spent a great deal of time listening to Yeadon people. What has become clear to me is that there is a massive gap between what people are told about life in a democracy and their everyday experience. Things just seem to happen in Yeadon. Bus services are changed or cancelled, the High Street is dug up, the airport is expanded and no one seems to how or where these decisions were made. It seems that no one is accountable to the people of Yeadon.

Clearly, there are agencies, authorities and other organisations who are making decisions about life in Yeadon but their activities are hidden in a fog. This makes them unaccountable and unresponsive to criticism.

In my view, politics should be about local people controlling their own lives by electing men and women to represent them. This seems simple enough but appears not to be happening in Yeadon. My approach to this is simple. After listening to local people  at public meetings, talking to people in the street and on the phone, reading their points in questionnaires and letters I feel I have a clear view of what they want from an elected representative.

My manifesto is my commitment to do what I have been asked to do by the people of Yeadon and that is to fight their corner to the best of my ability. The ideas in the following pages come from you and if elected I will do all in my power to ensure that your voice is heard. I will not promise to change everything or do things I cannot do but I will make myself available as your representative to give Yeadon a voice. Please keep this document and call me to account if I do not try to keep my promises to you."

Give Yeadon a voice. Vote for John Eveleigh on 1st May!
